Transitioning?
Sometimes this has got to be the toughest thing to do as you journey in career, but I would like to share some practical tips you might find useful .
1.) Find the connecting lines and leverage them :
These are formally called transferable skills, skills that you picked up in your former role that are just as valuable in your present role.
2.) Read up and skill up: Yes you have found the connecting lines , to understand how processes and the structure works , read up, stay abreast with your industry trends, learn necessary skills ,including but not limited to technology skills, attend Webinars and learning sessions 😁
3.) Get a guide: You need a support system who has navigated your new path to help you navigate, this makes your journey faster , these ones would guide you, and show you what works and how it works.
4.) Ask every question – yes even the “dumb” ones : An adage in Igbo translates as, “He who asks questions, never gets lost. So ask! No matter how dumb, your question is, ask it, find out Why , it should be A instead of B.( How else would you know, if you don’t ask?🤷)
5.Allow yourself explore : Yes ,I understand it is a new terrain, you want to take your time, but don’t hold back cos of fear, take calculated risks, test your ideas, and the things you have read in the books😁
6.) Don’t be too woke, and forget the place of humility: You are the one who needs help and guidance, your coach may be tough with feedbacks, your trainer may be hard, don’t be in a hurry to leave challenging situations when you are yet to gain a level of understanding and mastery.🤝
7.) Finally brethren, Rome was not built in a day, even experienced professionals, do not make perfect decisions every time, give yourself permission to grow, without perfection.🥂
I hope you find my 2 cents helpful, keep winning 🫶
