New Delhi has withdrawn Sanjay Kumar Verma after Canada declared him and other Indian diplomats “persons of interest” in the case of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s murder last year – stating that such actions have threatened their safety.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs insists that the Trudeau government has not provided a “shred of evidence” it says exists linking Indian diplomats to the murder, slamming the move as a deliberate strategy to smear India for political gain. The decision comes as the pro-Khalistan group ‘Sikhs for Justice’ published a video showing the mock assassination of Verma being shot multiple times and an effigy being set on fire on Monday.
