Uyama Of Africa Debuts Mboroko: The New Sound Taking Africa by Storm

Top music producer, singer, and songwriter David Daniel, better known as Producer Didimoon, is making waves with his latest project, “Mboroko.”

The track, a unique fusion of UK drill, Afrobeats, and Efik cultural beats, has already garnered significant attention with over 10,000 downloads on Spotify. Speaking about the song, Daniel, who also goes by Uyama of Africa, explained that “Mboroko” is a folk song in his native Efik, where “Uyama” means light.

“It’s more like a conquest song for the warriors in my region. In 2007, a song called ‘Man’s Not Hot’ by Big Shaq became a hit in the UK. It featured a popular hook that reminded me of the ancient traditional drumming of our Efik masquerades. I realized this was a story that needed to be told to the world.

“When creating ‘Mboroko,’ I infused the UK drill sound with all its modern elements but also incorporated the authentic local drumming. If you listen closely, you’ll hear those traditional Efik drum beats. I went back to the roots to capture the true essence of our cultural sound.”

Uyama, who also produced actress Jenifer Eliogu’s hit song “Onulu Ube,” noted that within a week of its release, “Mboroko” was trending on TikTok, thanks to its captivating local sound. “The story behind ‘Mboroko’ is about reminding young Africans and black people globally that their creations are rooted in their DNA. Despite what we were taught, our ancestors were creators, architects of sound and melody. These traditional melodies have evolved into today’s music,” he stated.
